September is Attendance Awareness Month

  • Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school.
  • Chronic absence appears to have doubled by the end of the 2021-22 school year. We estimate that it now affects nearly one out of three students (or 16 million vs. 8 million students in the 2018-19 school year).
  • Absenteeism and its ill effects start early.

  • Congratulations to Ms. Tsutsumi’s, Ms. Romaneli’s and Ms. Muro’s classes for earning 10 Robo class tickets!  They will receive extra recess.
  • Congratulations to Ms. Blakely’s class for having 100% perfect attendance this past week!

Extended Learning Opportunities

I am excited to share with you that starting next quarter, Camarena will start offering FREE after school clubs for students in grades 1-6. We will have reading, math logic, Spanish, coding, graphic design, art, Ballet Folklorico, bracelet making, technology, and homework clubs. Clubs are various days of the week at various times. Please open the attachment and register using the link or QR code. Registration will close on Sept. 20 and families will be notified. Not all students that register may have a space this round. We hope to grow this program throughout the year.
