To participate, submit a 15-second video, short essay, drawing, or photo to heather.cruz@cvesd.org by September 18 answering the question: Why do you think 2 is Too Many? Winners will be announced on September 20 and featured on our social media. #AttendanceMatters

PTA Membership Drive

PTA is sponsoring a “PTA Popsicle” Membership Drive this week!  The class with the highest number of PTA members in each grade level by Friday, September 20 will win a popsicle party.  Even if you already joined this year, you still count.  We will also have extra recess for each class that has 100% joined (and a special treat for the teacher).  Just by joining PTA you are helping support our school.  PTA supports all students on campus by hosting community events, offering teacher mini grants, supporting the prize cart, purchasing technology, recess and PE equipment, classroom supplies, books and literature, programs and software, etc. Which class will win the contest?

Please join today! https://www.camarenapta.org/

2024SILVER and GOING FOR GOLD in 2025

California PBIS initiated their first statewide effort in 2015 to implement a recognition system to acknowledge schools for implementing PBIS with fidelity to the national framework. Schools may apply to be recognized as Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum PBIS schools. Schools apply for recognition based on how deeply they implement the PBIS systems, including team analysis of practices supporting student behavior, data informing decision making and systems supporting staff response and behavior.  I am proud to announce that thanks to the hard work of our students, staff, and community- Camarena Elementary has been recognized as a 2024 California PBIS Silver Implementation School!

“On behalf of California PBIS, we are pleased to recognize Camarena Elementary of the Chula Vista Elementary School District for successful PBIS implementation at the SILVER level. Your school is a recipient within the California PBIS Recognition System, reflecting excellence in the implementation of the core features of PBIS.”

HAC Parent/Guardian Home Access Center

Home Access Center (HAC) is part of Eschool and allows parents to view student information such as registration, attendance, and state test score reports (ELPAC and CAASPP) that LEAs are required to share with families. Parents self-register on the District website, which matches them to their student in Eschool. The site also provides guides and information on logging in and troubleshooting HAC account issues. https://www.cvesd.org/parents/home-access-center

Vandalism on Campus

Our campus was targeted with hateful vandalism on Saturday night.  Our beautiful community school was “tagged” with blue and black spray paint in over 15 different places including walls, doors, windows, signs, and even our very unique mural.  This type of behavior will cost our campus thousands of dollars.  If you see or hear anything please reach out to the police 619-691-5151.  Thanks to all of our community members that reached out and helped to make sure our school was ready to go by Monday morning.

LEAD After School Clubs

On Monday, August 19th we will start implementing the new PIN-based system along with a signature requirement for student pick up. Please make sure to bring your ID with you. This new policy is part of our continued efforts to prioritize the safety and security of all our students.

Additionally, if your student will be walking home from the LEAD Club, please send an email to veronica.rawman@cvesd.org to notify us. It is essential that we receive this information to ensure the safety of all students.

As reminder, it is very important for students go to the lunch arbor after school, as this is where they are checked in. We have noticed a few students are not getting checked in, because they arrive late going straight to the classroom.

CVESD University

A new initiative at the Chula Vista Elementary School District, CVESD University is a series of workshops, events, and engagement opportunities designed for families. As part of the program, parents/guardians will receive a Parent Passport and will earn special recognition for their attendance in eight or more district-level events throughout the 2024-25 school year. All workshops will take place at the district office located at 84 East J Street in Chula Vista. Light refreshments will be provided. Please click on the link for more information and registration.

LEAD After School Clubs

We wanted to inform you about some important changes regarding the pick-up procedure for students attending the LEAD Club.

Effective immediately, we will no longer be offering curbside pick-up for LEAD Club students. Instead, we kindly ask that all families pick up their student(s) in the auditorium. In two weeks, we will be introducing a new PIN-based system along with a signature requirement for student pick up. We will provide detailed instructions next week on how to access and use these PINs. Each authorized adult will be assigned a specific PIN to ensure a secure and efficient pick-up process.

This new policy is part of our continued efforts to prioritize the safety and security of all our students.

Additionally, if your student will be walking home from the LEAD Club, please send an email to veronica.rawman@cvesd.org to notify us. It is essential that we receive this information to ensure the safety of all students.

School Site Council

We need to elect THREE parent representatives to Camarena’s School Site Council (SSC) for the 2024- 2025 school year. The purpose of this council is to monitor the progress of our school plan, which includes the budgets to accompany it. Parent representatives provide valuable input concerning the curriculum and activities that expand the core curriculum assured by district categorical funding.

The School Site Council is an elected decision-making body for the school. Parents represent half of the 10-member committee.

If you have the time and the interest to serve on the School Site Council (SSC), please provide your name and information below. It is a wonderful opportunity to become very familiar with our school and help provide input into school-wide decision-making. This is a 2-year term. Sixth grade parents can serve only one year but may run in this election. If you are interested in having your name placed on the ballot, please fill out and return the information form below. This form needs to be completed by Monday morning, August 5, 2024.  SSC meetings are held monthly; 3:00-4:00 pm and they will be in person with a virtual option.

  • For safety, Kindergarten will be dismissed 5 minutes before the rest of the school.
  • TK and Kindergarten will have minimum instructional days from July 24- August 2.  Students in TK will attend school from 8:15-1:00. Students in Kindergarten will attend school from 8:15-1:10. Afternoons will be used for individual student assessments.
  • Back to School Night/Orientation grades 1- 6 will be from 5:00-6:20 on August 1, 2024.
  • Thanks for a GREAT first week of school!  If you child’s teacher is using DOJO, I would encourage you to follow the school and their class.  It is the best way to see what is happing in class.  Also, please remember that Mr. Soileau and Ms. Fimbrez do not use DOJO as a form of personal communication.  If you need to speak with Mr. Soileau or Ms. Fimbrez, please call or email and they will get back to you as soon as possible.
  • For the safety of our students, staff, and community dogs are not allowed on campus.  If you plan to include a dog walk with a student drop off or pick up, please arrange for a place off of campus.
  • We still have about 10 yearbooks from last year for sale.  They are $50 cash, in the front office.

Traffic

We have over 900 students at Camarena, so traffic at drop off and pick up can be lengthy at times.  Below is a map of the front parking lot.

  • When you pull into the parking lot, you will need to make a decision- stay to the right (identified with the orange arrows on the map) and enter the drop off lane.  This is for your students to simply get out of the car and you keep going.  Remember to ALWAYS pull as far forward as possible so we can exit as many cars as possible. If you plan to park or need to get out of the car, then stay to the left and enter the parking lot (identified by the green arrows on the map). There is NO dropping off/picking up in this area.
  • When you exit the parking lot at pick up and drop off, it is a RIGHT turn only.
  • If you drop off between 7:35 7:55 and pick up 10 minutes after the bell, there is less traffic.
  • If you are dropping off between 7:55-8:15, there will be heavy traffic, so be patient, follow the traffic expectations, and plan to wait.
  • There is NO drop off or pick up in the bus loop.

LEAD After School Clubs

We will begin reviewing LEAD club registrations on Friday, July 26th. Please remember registration doesn’t guarantee a spot in the LEAD program. Families will be notified via email by Wednesday, July 31st if their student was selected.

*Clubs start August 5th, except for Achieve 3000 for 2nd Grade, Community Art, Painting, and Workout club. Those start the week of August 12th.

Acceptance Process

Space is limited for LEAD Programs. Priority participation is granted to foster youth, unsheltered students living in hotels/motels, temporarily doubled-up or living in shelters, English language learners, and socioeconomically disadvantaged students. After the highest priority students are registered, additional students will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that applying does not guarantee acceptance into the LEAD Program.

Hello from PTA: Please Join us in the MPR on the first day of school July 24 at 8:20 am

I hope that you all have had a restful and relaxing summer. It is my hope that you all were able to make some wonderful memories. I can’t believe that the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year is fast approaching. After dropping off our students on the first day of school, July 24th, I would like to invite you to join me in the MPR to discuss some very important items for PTA. We will be discussing our goals for the year, the budget and our events/programs. We need your input! Let’s make this year the best one yet!
