What is the Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA)?

To make sure your child is ready for school, California law requires that children have a dental assessment by May 31 in either kindergarten or first grade, whichever is their first year in public school. More information can be found on the attached flyers.

LEAD Club Survey

We’re always looking for ways to improve and expand our LEAD program, and your input is invaluable! We’ve created a short interest form where you can let us know which clubs you would most likely enroll your child in if they were offered at Camarena. Please note this is not a registration form. It’s simply to help my team and me better understand your interests and preferences. Official registrations are only completed through Jumbula.

  • Be Safe-Be Respectful-Be Responsible
  • We have a PTA meeting this Wednesday at 6:00 in the MPR.
  • Thanks to everyone who came out for our Fiesta Mexicana!  It was so nice to see our community together supporting all of our students!
  • Please be mindful of your child’s attendance going into the holiday season.  If your child is sick and running a fever, please keep him/her at home and notify the office.  If your child isn’t sick, please make sure they are at school on time.  Just missing two days a month can add up and create truancy issues!
  • If you know that your child is going to be out for 3 or more consecutive days, please notify your child’s teacher and the office at least a week in advance so we can prepare an independent study plan for your child and the absences can be excused.
  • Please don’t drop off in the bus loop!  This is a very unsafe practice we are seeing adults do in the morning.  The installed cameras are recording license plates, and I will be reaching out to the appropriate people.

Hispanic Heritage Month Feature—Kiki Camarena

Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Salazar was a Mexican-born American Marine and undercover agent for the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Born in Mexicali, Mexico in 1947, Camarena joined the Marine Corps in 1973, serving for two years. Following his time in the corps, Camarena joined the DEA, first in Calexico, California, before transferring to the agency’s Fresno office in 1977 and then to its Guadalajara, Mexico office in 1981.

Four years later, on February 7, 1985, while on an undercover assignment in Mexico, Camarena was kidnapped and murdered by corrupt Mexican police officers working for drug lord Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo.

During his time with the DEA, Camarena received multiple awards for his service and, following his death, was awarded the Administrator’s Award of Honor, the highest award given by the organization. He was survived by a wife and three sons.
