YMCA Giving Campaign

Did you know that we have a YMCA before/after school site on our campus?  This means that our Robo Griffins directly benefit from the South Bay YMCA program!  Because of this, we want to support the YMCA giving campaign.  There are two ways to support the YMCA fundraising:

  1. You can make a donation to our school fundraising page in just seconds by clicking this link: Camarena Elementary 2024’s fundraising page for YMCA of San Diego County (classy.org)
  2. Look for loose change around the house and bring it to your child’s classroom teacher!  Each classroom will be accepting loose change.  We want to show our kids that every little bit adds up to a lot!  The class from each grade level that collects the most change will receive extra recess.

Junior Academy Program Information-Spring

The Junior Academy Program is a free program offered to students from CVESD in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade. Funded through the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program, Junior Academy offers a wide variety of academic and fun enrichment activities, field trips, and meals (breakfast, lunch, and snacks). The highest priority will be given to students identified as “unduplicated” (foster youth, unsheltered, students living in motel/hotels, temporarily doubled up, students in temporary shelters, English language learners, and socioeconomically disadvantaged students). After the highest priority students are registered, additional students will be registered on a first come, first serve basis.

Where is the Junior Academy Program located?

The Junior Academy Program will be offered at six school sites but any CVESD can attend. Hazel Goes Cook, Chula Vista Hills, Fahari L. Jeffers, Harborside, Lilian J. Rice, and Palomar Elementary.

Camarena is a Polling Site

Camarena Elementary School has been designated as a polling site for the upcoming March 5, 2024, presidential primary elections. To ensure the safety of our staff and students, our district has safety precautions for voters and poll workers visiting our school sites during elections. These precautions include:

  • Access to the polling area will be restricted to authorized personnel and voters, with designated entry and exit points.
  • To prevent overcrowding, we will manage the number of individuals in the polling area at any time.
  • Adequate signage and personnel will help direct traffic flow and parking to minimize congestion.
  • Our emergency response plan is in place, and our staff is trained to handle various emergencies.
  • We will work closely with local law enforcement to address any issues promptly.
  • Every effort will be made to place poll locations away from school offices, classrooms, and areas where students will be present.

Voting will be available at our school from Saturday, March 2, 2024, through Monday, March 4, 2024, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the polling site will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you have additional questions, please contact the front office.

Read Across America

March 2 is Read Across America Day followed by Read Across America Week beginning March 4. Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA), Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The NEA wants to make sure that all children have access to books.

This year, the theme is diversity and inclusion. Discovering books with different perspectives helps kids find out what others believe and how they feel, as well as to see themselves in the books that they’re reading. When we provide opportunities to broaden our perspectives, it opens up the door to creating a better and more inclusive world.

Congratulations to Ms. Muro- Chula Vista Elementary School District Teacher of the Year!

She will represent CVESD for the San Diego County Teacher of the Year.

What is LCAP?

The LCAP is a three-year plan that includes specific goals and actions to improve student outcomes and measurable indicators to track progress and outlines how the district plans to allocate resources, including state and local funding. It is an essential component of the Local Control Funding Formula, which requires school districts to create an annual plan that lists goals, defines outcomes, details actions, and tracks expenditures.

For more information, please visit our LCAP district page or contact your school site. We look forward to hearing from you!

The LCAP survey is part of CVESD’s annual efforts to ensure that our resources are being allocated to meet the needs of our diverse student population.

Forum Details:

We invite you to join us at the district office, or online, on February 13, 2024, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Spanish interpretation will be available.

For more information, please visit our LCAP district page or contact your school site. We look forward to hearing from you!

REGISTER at https://www2.heart.org/site/TR?pg=company&fr_id=9735&company_id=441973 and COMPLETE FINNS MISSION TODAY!

DID YOU KNOW – 90% of people who suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest don’t survive. Immediate Hands-Only CPR can double, even triple, a person’s chance of surviving cardiac arrest. By completing Finn’s Mission, families can learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR, creating a legacy of lifesavers!

Participation:

  • Each student in the classroom with the highest participation (or first to reach 100%) will receive a special gift and an extra CLASS PARTY! Plus, their teacher will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card! Ms. Barrett’s class is in the lead.

Fundraising:

  • We have currently raised $9,300 of our $20,000 goal.  Please consider donating today.  Reach out to family and friends to donate.

The American Heart Association is excited to extend their work with the NFL to support improving health outcomes at home and beyond through the Hands-Only CPR education. Students that complete the Finn’s Mission learning module will earn an entry for two tickets to Super Bowl LIX in 2025 and our school will be entered to receive a $10,000 fitness equipment makeover for every 18 completed Finn’s Mission.  Thank you for supporting our school and the American Heart Association!  Together, we are saving lives!

The Great Kindness Challenge

The Great Kindness Challenge is a grassroots movement that is making our schools, communities, and world a kinder and more compassionate place for all. Working together, we joyfully prove that KINDNESS MATTERS!

At the heart of The Great Kindness Challenge is the simple belief that kindness is strength. We also believe that as an action is repeated, a habit is formed.  As kindness becomes a habit, peace becomes possible.

Student council will be hosting several kindness activities and dress up days next week.

COVID-19 Guidance Update

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and SDCOE have updated the COVID-19 guidance. The updated guidance will allow individuals to follow a more symptom-based approach than usual for other illnesses. Individuals who develop symptoms and test positive must stay home for 24 hours from the onset. A child or staff member with COVID-19 can return to school or childcare if their symptoms are mild and improving and they have had no fever for 24 hours. They are no longer required to stay home for five days. If the student or staff member with COVID-19 never developed symptoms, they may continue to attend school or a childcare setting.

Students and staff must follow the masking guidance below:

  • Student masking indoors is strongly recommended through day ten after testing positive.
  • Staff masking indoors is required through day ten after testing positive per CAL/OSHA.
  • Symptom onset is day zero. If there are no symptoms, day zero is the test collection date. Individuals who have symptoms and test positive must stay home for at least 24 hours from the onset of symptoms.
  • The potential infectious period is two days before symptoms begin or the positive test date (if no symptoms) through day ten. (Day 0 is the symptom onset date or positive test date).
  • For any additional questions, please email covtest4@cvesd.org.
